This project centres on separation anxiety. The letter D stands for ‘Distance’ and ‘Dream’ and is also the initial of someone once impossible to part from. Through close visual observation of the body and the use of Polaroid emulsion lifts on candle surfaces, Zihan Gao’s work explores the delicate threshold between presence and loss – where light and shadow, memory and disappearance, meet in quiet resonance.
